Great analysis. I think the hardest thing for many of the pro-Palestinian demonstrators in the USA to deal with if the situation in Gaza is ever resolved is that their self-esteem is mainly based on their insistence that they prioritize the lives of children. The answer they give me to everything factual I tell them about the war in Gaza is "But what about the children? Don't your care about children being killed by the IDF?" Yet they demonstrated against our Democratic Presidential nominee and insisted that everyone their age either vote third party or not vote at all. They knew from Trump's Project 2025 that millions of American children and children in countries such as Africa would die because of Trump's determination to end vaccination against fatal diseases and to stop foreign aid. They also knew that hundreds of thousands more would die because of the conditions under which they and their parents would have to live as all support for the homeless vanished. They will have to face that they never cared about children at all. They will also have to face that not only did they not care about the most basic human rights of women and LGBT people in Gaza where the persecution has been deadly, but about the women and LGBT people in Muslim fundamentalist countries who continue to be tortured to death. When the UN verified that on October 7th and continuing for the hostages we have seen grotesque sex/gender human rights violations that sometimes make even Afghanistan look good in comparison, they said that this didn't matter because the people being raped and mutilated and tortured to death were Jews and so deserved to suffer and die. But what about the all the victims all over the world who are not Jews? They abandoned them to their fate. To make a long story short, they will have to face the fact that this was never about Palestinians at all for them. It was about the self-esteem they derived from calling for the destruction of Israel.

Exactly!!! The left literally called for a boycott of Harris because she wouldn’t call for the destruction of Israel. That was it. She did everything else they wanted, and the “progressives” literally handed our government to the Republicans. And every time know people come to me and complain and complain and complain about all the outrageous things the Trump administration is doing - and outrageous, destructive, ridiculous it all is - they somehow never remember that it was the “progressives” that made the Trump administration possible. And if I try to point out FACTS I’m looked at like I’m now the racist. The “progressives” have abandoned true progress for their (false) ideological “purity” tests. How do we save our world when these extremes on BOTH sides have taken over? Nothing gets better until the same logical people start calling out the the VERY DANGEROUS BS on their own side even as they call it out on the other. But until that happens… God help us.

Strongly agree. This is my same experience. I keep trying to get through to them, though.

Yes, I agree with both of you. I’m trying to stay connected online with Jews of all political stripes, even those who voted for the 🍊. As far as the Israel debate goes, my efforts mostly go to calling out my fellow Dems or liberals or whatever. They are so far out of alignment with their own stated values; I’d have thought it would be easier to un-wash brains, but those BS narratives are STICKY. I can’t even storm out of the Dem room & slam the door, because the alternative is fascists and ‘nat cons’.

😩

Yes, very vexing. My current position is that I support all Jews no matter their political views. However, if they don’t stand with Israel, I’ll keep on arguing with them and pointing out the flaws in their thinking. If they do stand with Israel, then they are family and I don’t abandon family for any reason.

Ruth 🟦's avatar

Same, though I’m extremely angry with the “Good Jews”. I wonder how many of them feel icky when they bash Israel - hopefully, a lot.

Exactly.

See the trajectory of Europe. The Left/Liberal parties are permitting an explosion of anti-Jewish incidents and doing various forms of BDS against Israel. The Dems chewed up liberal Jews and spit them out. Time to move on.

Ruth 🟦's avatar

It is the same in the US, but you do have to keep in ming that 1) there is one political party and one fascist movement in the US & I assess the fascist movement as the greater threat to Jews & other 🇺🇸s; 2) the threat to Israel & Jews is being driven by the Kremlin & Islamist PR & isn’t affected by whether I support Dems or Rs EXCEPT that Rs are more likely to launder information for the Kremlin.

Israel is a political football: But, how would me abandoning my own values to switch to the R party, which no longer believes in preventive health or the US Constitution, help Israel?

Alex W.'s avatar

Perhaps you have to reevaluate your values if the Dem Party has betrayed them, or maybe you need to decide to prioritize your values differently. Calling GOP fascists is like accusing Israel of genocide. It is false and excuses people from applying their critical thinking skills.

Sadly, there is no alternative in the US for anti-fascist Jews. So, for the moment, I’ll advocate for Israel and against Jew-hate from within the Democratic Party, which also happens to be the only vehicle that exists to prevent the loss of my health care in 2027.”, after midterms.

I voted Dem 40 years until this last election. The body politic in the US has operated for nearly 230 years by setting interest against interest and faction against faction. This means that when one party deviates too far in one direction then the only real option we have is to support the other party. Trump is karma for the Dems and is President for a reason. Mamdani and the Dems are taking note that 43% of Jews in NYC plan to vote for him, an embodiment of the Islamist/Progressive alliance. This is nuts.

That is because what unites the far left and Islamists is that both ideologies share the core traits of being utopian, nihilistic and authoritarian. Hence extremely bloody means become justified: the old 1960s chant "any means necessary" has had a tiny makeover into "any mean are justified when people are occupied".

Nihilism, Utopia, and authoritarianism - the Soviet, Islamist dream.

Just want to add that nowhere in my utopian dreams are there killing fields or haunted forests, but since mass graves have been the end result of every utopian dream so far, I’ll just stick with imperfect democracy if that’s still possible.

Funny how unborn children don’t count.

As Golda Meir said -this is not about land. There will not be peace until the Arabs love their children more than they hate us.

Couldn't be true-er! one problem, ass-side from the bigger issue of sidin' "pro-pally" (prop-ally might I say....) providin' a politicull identity fer the young'uns so deluded is that of imaginin' that these folks have the same "basic" values which clearly ain't the case at all in the cult of Islam. Sure, like all human beans they need food, clothin', shelter but the similarities stop there! NO they do NOT value their own LIVES nor those of their CHILDREN (oh them children!)--they do NOT put "women & children" first in terms of "innocence" (OR in terms of "heavenly rewards"-- anyone "martyred" ta the cause of killin' da joos has dun better that anyone who dies a natch'ral death. This is NOT a perspective that's "relate-a-bull" so--bizarrely--the activists ignore it an' go on believin' that "every pally baby & child is more precious ta their famblies than any rotten jooish life evah." This misunderstandin' runs deep as humans have trouble fathomin' that these folks have a pre-biblical mentality where human sacrifice is A-OK IF they do it fer the "right" "God"--theirs! Allah. Few git this.... human sacrifice is baaaaad. Even most atheists are brought up with the judeo-christian value that ya don't sacrifice yer mutha, bruthah, kid...

One more thought came ta mind too--since WWII ('er before?) the idea of controllin' hearts & minds became MKUltra an' even the milly-terry tryin' ta create "super soldiers" (who'd been "enhanced" but also brainwarshed ta disregard their own lives in battle so as ta prioritize winnin' over the enemy over their own lives/safety). These programs use torture, abuse an' all manner of dastardly techniques to erase one's sense of self but there is constant maintenance & (re-)programmin' (eg. tune ups in the Mancurian Candidate). The Muslims zo devoted ta Islamizm & GeeHaw'd SOLVED the MKUltra problem... these are totally mind controlled / brainwarshed folks that did not need ta be individually tortured... Imagine, the biggest cult in the world an' none value their own lives--ALL would die for "the cause" (which happens ta be murder...of joos). It's purdy sick but they've achieved en mass whut most well-funded gubbamint mind control programs could never do--total devotion at relatively low cost (no high tech needed!) Dang.

Ruth 🟦's avatar

The Russians & the Muslim cult did what MK Ultra failed at. Now that the results of Russian brainwashing are everywhere - pod people on the left AND right, it’s easy to see what a terrible human rights violation brainwashing is. I’m glad 🇺🇸 failed at it, but I wish our people could have their brains back.

Daisy Moses Chief Crackpot's avatar

100% troo! An yer right 'bout Russia. I didn't mention the Russkies... they worked with the MussSlimes an' had the dubious honor of not only "creatin'" the Protocols of the Elders but of makin' sure the MussSlimes had copies in Arabic. (The damage done by the Cossacks wuzn't enfu, nu?)

Great one Pat! I would add one additional level of analysis. The tear-it-down-roaming riot-in-the-West bunch actually share the Palestinian ethos of razing civilization to the ground. They have a lot in common with the Pals. They embrace the murder of Jews on American soil as well as non-Jewish CEOs of insurance companies. They want blood.
