There is always a nefarious reason applied to every Jewish behavior. I recently saw a post on Instagram from a young woman who proudly announced that she was converting to Judaism and she said what she loved most about Judaism was that it doesn’t proselytize. Someone responded to her and said “That’s because they think they’re better than you and they don’t want you.”
So here we have a culture and tradition built upon the concept of not forcefully converting or conquering others, because Judaism does not ascribe to the idea that everyone must be like us, that all are made in the divine image, and one does not need to be Jewish to have a relationship with the divine. But the first assumption at the mention of “Jew,” and it couldn’t possibly be anything benign, or gasp, actually accepting and tolerant. I guess some version of “covert or die,” makes for an inclusive religion, but “you do you” is a form of snobbery of it comes from a Jew.
But just think about how important Zach and Kat feel being noticed. The entire movement is a referendum on the narcissism of people. Having their opinion heard and letting everyone know how smart and informed they are is all they care about. It’s like they get high off their own self-importance.
If they cared about Palestinians, they would be shouting for the hostages to be released and for Hamas to surrender. They care about the attention. Which, by the way, I think is one of the reasons (along with nefarious education and historical religious animosity) that a majority of Palestinians despise Jewish people and continue to wage this fruitless war. All the slogans, “all eyes on Rafah,” all the celebrities in Hollywood, all the musicians at concerts, is there another group of people that get so much attention for their “martyrdom” and self-inflicted torture? As long as the morons in the west continue to indulge this terrorist, openly genocidal Hamas/Palestinian regime, they’ll continue to think of themselves as heroes.
Pat, as always, you hit the nail on the head. But we all understand the lies that pervade their narrative. Do they ever talk about the hatred of Jews being taught to children? Discuss the “right of return” narrative that underlies that hate? No. You can’t even start a discussion because they have turned so hardened to that reality. But then how, if possible, can we change that narrative? Do we need “boiler rooms” of people trolling and posting our side? Pro Israel/Jew bots? What can we do? Will the good side prevail if we stick to Tikun Olam? Even if Hamas is defeated and hostages come home, it’s like cancer… you might cut out most of it, but there is always the chance it might show up again.
David: Yes, even if the war ends and Hamas is ended, there needs to be some attempt, however inadequate, at the sort of denazification that took place after the Second World War. If the Palestinians began teaching peace and coexistence to their children today, we might have peace in two generations. That is how far away we are from a resolution, I fear.
Well, I don't even expect the "truth" from a PhD, but certainly do expect some critical thinking and basic knowledge of history. I think the fact that the first Arab showing up in ancient Israel, Judea and Samaria in the middle of the 7th century AD with a "conquest", i.e. at least 1,500-2,000 years after thriving Jewish kingdoms in the region, should put to rest the bullshit debate about who is occupyimg who. Never mind the destruction of the First Temple, the Romans, the Maccabis and other more recent (to the Arab Conquest) events - still good 600 years prior.
I'll bet that Mr. Foster is great buddies (or would like to be, anyway) with the likes of Peter Beinart, etc. And, I do love how the only sources that Ms. Dodds accepts are those that are known for their overt hatred of anything and everything Israeli/Jewish.
I noticed this issue of sources with the Quakers (Although they recommend reading from multiple sides the recommendation for the Israel side were human rights organisations. While these groups have their place, you are not going to understand the Israeli side from them)
