In another context, playing on a line from "Julius Caesar," I called such people "mongrels of war," given their ostensible calls for peace and their actual agitation for war (not to mention the elimination of Israel/the Jooooz). I was promptly scolded by a person who essentially called me a Nazi, since the Nuremberg Laws of 1935 used the term "Mischling" (mongrel). This person professes not to take sides but is curiously silent about Israel except to accuse the IDF of "genocide."

Hamas would not have been able to wage this war without massive material and media assistance of useful idiots and Jew haters in the West. Never would have happened. Hamas stands for one thing - killing Jews and destroying Israel. There is no other reason for to exist. It offers nothing constructive to Gazans or the region. Therefore it has to be removed. Israel has zero alternatives in that regard. All the rich kids pretending to be jihadis in Canada or the USA won’t change that. Gaza is a criminal zone populated by terrorists and their sympathizers. So is the “West Bank”. The proof is in the history of repeated unrelenting attacks on Jews living in the area and on Israel for over 100 years. The only way to get peace is to end terrorism.

Thank you for one of the best written essays I’ve read about these “peace” activists. I look forward to reading your other work which undoubtedly, is every bit as superb.

Restacked and shared with other social media.

You write: „If Hamas turned over the hostages and surrendered […] the rebuilding of Gaza could begin, a new day of peace and opportunity for Palestinians and Israelis could start.“ Are you saying that the same people who voted for Hamas, a plurality of whom even now condone Hamas‘ atrocities would suddenly and as if by magic become trusted partners of Israel? Which fairy dust or nagic wand are you using for this transformation?

Hi Ulrich ... I get it. I share your suspicions. Note that I said "begin" and "start." And you are correct that the people of Gaza (and the West Bank) have been indoctrinated with hatred. It may take a generation, maybe two, before these peoples will live in peaceful coexistence. But it won't start until it starts. Something I always remember: The Cold War ended without armageddon. Apartheid ended without revolution. History, and humans, can surprise us.

Absolutely- Hamas should surrender, the people of Gaza should rise up and attempt to sabotage the Hamas war plans - but that’s not happening for a whole host of reasons.

This then doesn’t give the green light to a “civilized” nation who we all know possess more firepower, resources and intelligence to systematically start wiping urban areas off the map.

Show me your intelligence, show me your civility and outline your plan what your goals are and how you will be accountable for any collateral civilian casualties.

Then enact a plan that is more surgical than barbaric. The amount of intelligence gathered should not lead to ordering a bombardment of the neighborhood but surgical extraction of the person or the use of precision weapons.

Israel has no plan and they are losing the war on civility have failed at statesmanship and now they are viewed as just being the “bully” - the very nation filled with people claiming they have been persecuted since before Moses walked the earth are now systematically eliminating a chunk of humanity off the map.

I don’t get it.

You are correct: You don't get it. Israel is being as strategic as a nation-state in war can be when confronted with an enemy that respects no rules of engagement. The reason many people die in specific operations (the rescue of the four hostages recently, for example) is because of a deliberate strategy of Hamas to place terror infrastructure in civilian areas. In this case, to hold hostages in private homes. The more dead, the better the PR -- and if you think that is not the exact plan, look at what you just wrote. You and millions worldwide are playing the precise role Hamas hoped (and knew) you would. Hamas ensures civilians die and you blame Israel. And in the process, you dismiss 2,000 years of Jewish experience with persecution with your flippant phrase "claiming they have been persecuted..." Your last sentence says it all.

And yet here Israel is playing right into that narrative. After years of this being proven to not work - Israel continues to respond to this with blood shed. They have the regions best intelligence gathering and yet you are convinced this government didn’t see this attack coming?

Im not talking about the hostage rescue- I’m talking about the larger plan - or more precise the lack of plan this administration has in dealing with it.

Nothing in this part of the world has been solved with military killing- and yet here you are saying let’s stoop down to the terrorist level and systematically eliminate block by block an entire city - what do you think that 12 year old who lost his family is going to grow up to become?

Good job on perpetuating the blood shed - cause you are covered in it.

Has it been proven not to work? Has Israel ceased to exist, which is the goal of the terrorists? Not only is your argument irrational, it is seeped in classic anitsemitic stereotypes. You allege Israel knew in advance about Oct. 7 but chose not prevent it, presumably so that they could go on a killing binge. This assertion is beneath all human decency. It also dovetails precisely with the classic blood libel, a trope you EXPLICITLY repeat at the end. You engage in victim-blaming, another inescapable aspect of antisemitism ("Jews always bring it on themselves"). I don';t know what country you live in, but a few thoughts: I'm sure you, with your extensive military and intelligence background, know better than the IDF how to protect Israelis and execute a necessary war. And if a terrorist entity entered your country, murdered, raped, immolated, beheaded, kidnapped and mass raped thousands of people, I trust you would maintain your deep humanitarianism and turn the other cheek, allowing them to kill and kill again. I return to the concluding line of your first comment. You don't get it.
