Pat Johnson:

“Israel is not viewed by progressive activists as the world’s embodiment of evil because of settlements or policies or any of the other red herrings that are thrown up to justify the hysterical condemnations. It is viewed as the embodiment of evil because Jews have traditionally been the empty vessel upon which humans have projected their sins — and the Jewish state is both the national embodiment of the Jewish people and the natural inheritor of centuries of projection and vilification of Jews.

Jews worldwide are not targeted because of Israel’s existence. On the contrary, Israel is targeted because of Jews’ existence. At a minimum, it is the Jewish people’s insistence on existing as a self-determined people that sets off the haters.

It is not, fundamentally, the existence or actions of Israel that lead to global condemnations and acts of hate against Jews around the world. No, we’ve got this exactly backward. It is the hatred of Jews around the world that leads to the military and rhetorical assaults against Israel. Global antisemitism is not a byproduct of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a byproduct of global antisemitism.”

Absolutely. And you know what most of the times stops a bully - a good old fashioned standing up to them. Why do the Jews allow the systems of our society to be weapinised against them? File complaints against officials and institutions that allow supoort of terror (in violation of the Criminal Code no less) and hate speech. These "pro-Pal" voices are very loud. Quietly shrugging them off will not work.

Pat, your work, and that of others like you, is very important and is the first step.

One way to stand up is to understand that (unless a person is sued or criminally charged), a person does not have any obligation to respond and defend themselves against false accusations. One of the antisemitic tropes is to throw false accusations at the Jews and then watch the "gladiatorial" show as the Jews use their brains to come up with ways to defend themselves and "prove" their innocence--instead of using their brains for more beautiful and meaningful things. The empowered answer to false claims is, I do not have to work to defend myself against claims that are not true.

Spot on. BLM was successful in forcing much of America to bow down to a certain demographic and implement idiotic DEI and other crap. Was this out of some newly-discovered grace and recognition of inherent racism? Of course not. It was out of a quite rational fear that this particular demographic could become violent at the drop of a hat and literally destroy anything in their way. No one has any fears we Jews would burn anything beyond the Hanukkah candles.

We need to reveal the lies being told about us, and we need to cause great pain to the liars. The latter might best be manifested in the courts although there are far too many liberal judges. Still, we aren’t going to burn their houses down. Yet.

They feel pain when Jews do not react with fear and desire to please.

Having to acknowledge that the world has been chronically horrible to Jewish people in every way humans can be horrible, is way too painful for most to admit. It's easier to just brush it off, default to that ol' chestnut of "Well, they must have done something to deserve it," and keep taking the guilt out on Jewish people. I mean, what's the alternative, to actually self-reflect?!

Well written piece. I’ve always felt that in the West, antisemitism is the lowest hanging fruit on the tree of white guilt.

Excellent analysis. "Pro Palestinians" are actually supporters of Zionism. Their goal is to bully Jews living outside of Israel. And where will these Jews go if Jew haters manage to make their lives intolerable? To Israel, perhaps? My grandfather in Poland grew up to the chants of, "dirty Jew, go to Palestine." "Free Palestine" and "dirty Jew, go to Palestine" are remarkably similar in their effect.

Jew haters everywhere are too stupid to understand that for centuries they’ve made the case for a strong Jewish state better than any Zionist ever could.

But they want a Jewish state to exist as a punching bag so that they can bully Jews outside of Israel who love Israel.

There's another piece to the abuse of Israel and Israel-supporting (aka Zionist) Jews: how better to relieve oneself of any guilt one might otherwise feel if your ancestry is of a former European colonial powers. How else to explain the phenomenon of donning kefiyyahs and other paraphernalia by people with no middle eastern ancestry as a show of "solidarity" and not "cultural appropriation", based on the historically illiterate view that Jews returning to the part of the Levant after 2,000 years of forced displacement is "colonization". (This "reading" of history also assumes that the century long violent conquest of the MENA and even parts of Europe by tribes from what is now Saudi Arabia, in the name of religion, was just some sort of natural order of things.)

I recently stumbled across an excellent article on the “Canadian Zionist Forum” substack, which itself is based on a series of four articles on fathomjournal.org by retired professor of philosophy and bioethics Eve Garrard, who specialized in the psychological basis of evil - they offer a unique perspective on the underlying causes of antisemitism - highly recommended:

How it makes a perverse, narcissistic sense“

an' THIS as a brutal reminder:

"The manner in which the anti-Israel movement unites progressive, feminist, leftwing, nonviolent,

LGBTQ+ activists with the most regressive, violent, misogynistic, homophobic, intolerant forces on the planet is proof positive that something irrational — even supernatural — is at play."

It's like a shiv in the back...b/c every one'a these movements wuz supported "fiercely" by us joos--we marched fer civil rights, we joined our pals in the "pride" parades (now a shonda/shame if evah), we let the frickin' Nazis march in Skokie cuz free speech (I still 'member when ACLU wuzza good org), yadayada...
