The bystander cowardice is the thing we must fight against, as you are doing here with your Substack, and as I’m trying to do with mine. I suspect many people want to speak up but are too afraid. The stakes are high for everyone, not just Israelis & Jews, as you note, and we must keep encouraging people to use their voices. Courage begets courage!

It's terrifying and sickening. The truly evil ones are trying to eat our society and freedoms from the inside and the void ones are letting them because they have no integrity. You are completely on target.

On October 06, I (Jewish, from US) was still telling others of us that they had a persecution complex. It’s the hatred against us that followed that, though, that worries me more far more than Oct. 07 itself. The quote below, from your post, neatly sums up my present position.

“If you are someone who reads these lines and thinks anything along the lines of “persecution complex,” “drama queen” or “overreacting,” you are part of the reason these individuals are doing what they are doing.”

I'll be writing something soon (maybe after the July 4 British election) about the (nearly miraculous) way Keir Starmer and his team have taken a party that had been infested with antisemitism and pulled it back from the abyss. It is one of the most stunning and encouraging developments in recent history, I think. What are the lessons for other leftist parties worldwide? Can it be done here?

Conservative voter since 1989, Cant stand Trudeau, never could, But for the first time in my life, I am very very worried about a politician, that is Poilievre.

We dont need a Mini Republican Or MAGA Priminister

The thing is Trudeau , in my humble opinion, has counted the votes, and the Muslim votes win out.

He has taken a stance, like all the rest of the countries in the UN. To side with the Palestinians ( Hamas) to side with terrorists..

So there you have it, NDP , LIBERAL, or CONSERVATIVE. I feel Poilievre will better protect the Jewish Community.

The other two? Who knows.

This will be the first time in my life I will vote Conservative. I just started paying attention to Canadian politics again because of some family issues since the last election, so I ignored Poilievre until recently. Didn't vote for Trudeau, ignored the trucker stuff because I had other fish to fry. Going by the speech below, I'm inclined to agree he has good principles around Israel.

I saw that speech. It was one of the few times that I was not put off by Poilievre opening his mouth

I was almost disowned by a half Jewish friend of mine last night for saying that Israel is NOT an apartheid state. I admit that I got a bit heated and said that it was hypocrisy to accuse Israel of apartheid while turning a blind eye to the practices of all of the Muslim majority nations that surround Israel. The whole interaction opened my eyes to the fact that I’m going to lose friends and be smeared as a “white supremacist” if I defend Israel.

Yeah. I always say "You can compare anything with anything." So, OK, let's compare Israel with apartheid and pinecones with cheese. We can have that discussion. But we are going to lose friends, you are correct. I'm of two minds about that. It's sad. But isn't it better to know who we're dealing with? One would hope reason might prevail, but it doesn't take long to see when and where that approach will not work.
