That is always their go to- that the IHRA or anything else to hold them to account silences them when it comes to their support of the Palestinians. The fact that they cannot seem to defend the Palestinians without running afoul of antisemitism says so much about who these people are and what they think.
Also considering the number of countries, universities, and companies that have already adopted the IHRA definition it didn't really seem to silence anyone in the last 15 months. But then again antisemitism isn't based on logic.
It’s quite a phenomenon that we Jews make others feel so oppressed by standing up for ourselves. So much for “None of us are free, unless all of us are free,” except the Jews, we should be able to do whatever we want to them. (A quote written by a Jew about Jews and co-opted by every other cause, no less.)
Personally, I, along with many others, feel I've been silenced by the literary antifada for doing less than to condemn Israel for being genocidal, colonial, etc. Palestinians haven't been silenced by Al Jazeera and literary journals and the New Yorker, to name a few examples that spring to mind. My local bookstore has a shelf devoted to Palestinian voices and stickers supporting them displayed on its windows. I'm open to hearing abour examples of supporters of Palestine being silenced, unless it's for saying things that are supposed to pass for innocent but are code for Israel should not exist. I.e., I'm rubber, you're glue, so cut off my legs and call me Shorty. I love the terms cry-bullies and victim-envy.
I have found that those who "take issue" with the IHRA definition are all (in my experience) Israel-haters, and I don't mean those who have issues with certain Israeli positions, policies or actions, but those who don't believe that Israel has a right to exist at all.
I wonder if there is any other country on the planet that they don't think has a right to exist. I'd be willing to bet that the answer is "NO".
Its more of the same. The constant push, the constant narrative , of minimizing Jewish thought , Jewish Life, Jewish Freedom. It is an attempt and an attack to trivialize every historical fact for the purpose of delegitimizing Jews. That is what we have become, what the world has become, are societies based on hate, scapegoating has become the rigeur De jour.
There is the troubling phrase going around, even in Jewish circles, of "weaponizing antisemitism." And the same for the Holocaust. And in the U.S., the phrase emerges about racism and slavery.
Thanks Rikki. I’ll be writing about this soon. It is a projection. To accuse Jews of “weaponizing antisemitism” is to weaponize antisemitism against Jews.
Today's actuvists are usually good at destroying, but not good at building. Criticising wothout offering viable alternatives has become the way. But then again, we know that when it comes to antisemitism, destruction is what all these activists seek.
My biggest disappointment these days is that the progressivism and activism have become such dirty words to many from the political centre. In other circumstances and earlier in history, progressivism and activism pushed forward some of the most advanced and impirtant causes of the times.

Nailed it.
Yes they know exactly why they don’t want this definition. Too bad

Ain't that the damn truth!

Exactly. I’ll be slamming this topin in the next few days. There is silencing going on … but it’s not coming from our side.

And I’d be willing to bet you are 100% correct.

Sad So Sad
Sadly true.
